How to Keep Your OKAPA at Its Best
4 minute read

Like any hydration product, routine cleaning is recommended. With OKAPA, that routine is where you start to feel the difference — no odors, no bacteria-prone zones, no compromise.
The Quick Clean — Daily or As Desired
1. Remove the Cap and Spout
Pop the lid and detach the Grilamid TR-90 spout. These are your highest-contact surfaces — rinse them under warm running water after each use, or as desired.
2. Rinse the Glass Carafe
The German borosilicate 3.3 glass interior doesn’t hold odors or residue. A warm water rinse is all it takes for everyday freshness. No scrubbing required.
3. Let It Air Dry — The Bottle Does the Rest
OKAPA’s built-in aeration system keeps the interior naturally dry between uses, actively reducing the conditions where bacteria grow. Leave parts separated to dry fully before reassembly.
The Deep Clean — Weekly
1. Fully Disassemble — All 8 Parts
Every component comes apart by hand. Removing all 8 parts exposes every surface you drink from. No hidden grooves. No mystery zones.
2. Dishwasher — All Parts Except the Aluminum Shell
The top-cap, spout, silicone components, and glass carafe are all dishwasher safe. Hand wash the anodized aluminum shell only — warm water and mild soap maintains its pristine finish.
3. Reassemble When Fully Dry
Moisture is where bacteria starts. Reassembling dry parts into a dry bottle is the final step in a genuinely clean cycle.
For Maximum Sanitation: You Can Boil It. Seriously.
When you want clinical-level clean, the spout, silicone parts, and glass carafe can all be submerged in boiling water. Placing the individual parts in a heat-resistant strainer while submerged is recommended — 3 to 4 minutes is all it takes.
OKAPA’s materials aren’t just food-safe, they were chosen because they perform at medical-grade standards.
Borosilicate 3.3 Glass — thermal shock resistant. With a coefficient of thermal expansion of just 3 × 10-6K-1, the glass carafe is safe for full boiling water immersion.
Food-Grade Silicone — rated to 500°F / 260°C. Far exceeds the boiling point. Can be sterilized by boiling, just like medical and baby-grade silicone.
Grilamid TR-90 Spout — rated to 400°F / 204°C. EU and FDA food approved. Withstands boiling without warping, leaching, or degrading.
Caution: Do not boil the aluminum shell, the spring mechanism, or Nitronic 60 stainless steel hardware components. These parts don’t need it — and the aluminum’s anodized finish is best preserved with a gentle hand wash.
This Is What It Was Designed to Do
Clean thoroughly. Stay clean. Prove it every time you use it.
